When I eat, I eat. When I do something else, I do not eat.
Mindless eating, that is, eating without thinking about it or really being aware of it is an important source of my squishiness. So this experiment is all about paying attention to what I’m eating.
Not having any distractions while I eat is an obvious first step. Normally, I read something while I’m eating, or at least watch a video or something. So, not doing that is actually a big change to my routine. At this stage, I’m not eating less or different things, I’m just paying attention.
This rule becomes difficult to follow when I’m eating with other people. It would be a bit strange to say, “Sorry I’m not taking part in the dinner conversation, but I’m focussing on my food.” Luckily I’m pretty antisocial, so this doesn’t come up a lot for me, although I do generally eat dinner with The Dave.
The rule doesn’t really work that well in social situations, so that’s where the other rules will become more important.
And yeah, this isn’t much. But it’s a change, and it counts.

This is a good rule and one which I don’t manage to stick to myself as often as I’d like. (I’m okay at meals, but I tend to snack while reading/watching tv/etc.)
I actually find that eating while talking to people helps me to slow down, and makes meals more satisfying because they become more of an event. Anything else while eating (especially reading) means I barely notice the food, which is bad, cos then I want more.
Yes, it most certainly does count. And little changes both add up quickly, and tend to stick around better, or so I’ve found from my experience.
Good Fortune with your Journey! :-)
