Custom Illustrations

Friendly drawings and designs with plenty of character.

Because every illustration request is slightly different, it’s hard to give a price list, but this is my attempt to do so anyway. How much you’ll pay for an image depends largely on how you’re going to use it. I’ll give you three catagories.

For more information on how these catagories affect the ways you can use your illustration, please have a look at my Terms and Conditions.

Personal use

Rockstar PortraitThis is for images you want for yourself, or to give as a gift. You can print and display the image, but the copyright will remain with me. Examples:

  • A portrait of yourself or your cat, or both,
  • A twitter/facebook/whatever avatar you want to use as an individual (ie. not representing a business),
  • A header for a personal blog,
  • A portrait of your monster.

An illustration for personal use will be around £40 to £60, depending on the size and detail of the image. That’s about $64 to $96 in US dollars. I take payment in dollars if you prefer, using the current exchange rate listed by our lords and masters at Google.

Promotional use

Header for the Next Chance CafeThis is for illustrations that will be used to promote an organisation or business, where the image isn’t directly involved with commercial or fundraising activities. You get the rights to copy and distribute the image, but only for the purposes agreed on in advance. Examples:

  • A business card design,
  • Illustrations for use on a pro blog,
  • A button to promote a blog collective,
  • A twitter avatar for your business.

Illustrations for promotional use will come to about £50 to £100, possibly more if you want a series for instance. That’s $80 to $160 in US dollars as I’m writing, but check Google for the up to date exchange rate.

Commercial use

An image for on shirts and other merchandiseThis is for illustrations that are directly involved in making you money, or other situations where it’s important you get a larger share of the rights to the image. You’ll have the right to use the image pretty much however you need, including the right to make changes to it.

For these we can go through several rounds of designs, feedback, and changes, to make sure you’re happy with the result. Examples:

  • A logo for a business,
  • A cover for a book or e-book,
  • A design for a T-shirt you want to sell.

For these, count on about £100 to £160. That’s $160 to $257 at time of writing, but you can check for yourself at the Google. You can also use that link to check other currencies quickly.

Other notes

If you want a large number of images, like a series, or a number of illustrations for an e-book, I may be able to give you a bulk discount depending on the size of the job.

If you are a charity or a non-profit, I may be able to give you a discount, if I dig the work you do. Causes you might represent that I care about include: nature conservation, fighting poverty, LGBT rights and science education.

No Weirdness Guarantee

I know asking for quotes can be slightly scary, so I offer a special no obligations and no weirdness guarantee. It goes like this:

No weirdness. We can still be friends if you decide to go with someone else or you change your mind. Like, totally.

You can also have a look at my Terms and Conditions if you’re wondering about copyright or other legal issues. They are generic, and will be adjusted to your situation and whether your illustrations will be for personal, promotional or commercial use.

Final note: if you have a specific budget, tell me. Sometimes there are creative ways to do more with less and give you what you want while staying within the limits of your budget.
