Subscribe to Mad Science

You can subscribe to blogs, meaning you don’t have to check all the time if they have anything new up, you’ll get the goods delivered in a way you choose. It’s pretty neat, but for a long time I held off doing this because the technology involved confused me. If you’re in the same boat, I hope this helps.

RSS

RSS means Really Simple Syndication, and is an example of techies’ annoying habit of pretending something is simple when it bloody well isn’t. Luckily, you don’t have to know anything much about how it works. All you need is a Reader, and a way to tell your reader what you’d like to be subscribed to.

I use the Google reader because, well, it’s what everybody uses and Bloglines closed up shop. Boo. What you do is you click the orange RSS button on all the different blogs you like to read, and then select a reader on the page that pops up (it will be feedburner for my page). Then you go to Google Reader, and you can see the new posts for all the blogs you like to read, on one page. Handy. You’ll need a Google account, but you might already have one.

If you’re already clever about RSS and you just need the link, this is it:

Mad Science RSS link.

If you’d prefer to get new posts via e-mail, we can do that too! Just fill in this box, and Feedburner will get right on it. You can un-subscribe by clicking the link in any of the posts, and I won’t even know who you are or what your e-mail is. It’s all handled by Feedburner, who are part of Google, who are part of the evil cabal that rules the world. Oh, wait, no. That’s Pepsi.
